Seasonably mild temperatures returned to Eastern North Carolina on Wednesday afternoon under partly sunny skies. Clouds will be on the increase on Thursday as another cold approaches from the west. Showers and a few thunderstorms are likely over western North Carolina on Thursday and should move eastward Thursday night and Friday as the cold front crosses the area. A few of the storms could become strong to severe late Thursday night or Friday but a widespread outbreak of severe weather is unlikely. The showers and thunderstorms should end Friday night followed by mostly sunny skies and middle to upper 70s on Saturday afternoon. There will be a slight risk of showers on Sunday afternoon but otherwise the weekend should be quiet with seasonable temperatures.
