Six Tornadoes Reported In Eastern North Carolina Sunday Save Email Print

The National Weather Service has indicated that at least six tornadoes hit portions of Eastern North Carolina on Mother's Day. One tornado occurred in New Hanover County near Wilmington during the afternoon. Later in the evening five tornadoes developed further north in the area. One tornado hit Belgrade in Onslow County just before 7:00 pm and was classified as an EF2, which has winds between 111 and 135 mph. Shortly thereafter a tornado hit near Maysville in Jones County and Brandywine in Carteret County. Another EF2 tornado hit the Lewiston-Woodville area in northwestern Bertie County about 6:30 pm. There were nine injuries reported with the two EF2 tornadoes. Another tornado skipped around near 158 and Airport Road in Currituck County around 8:00 pm.
