Strong winds from an apparent tornado on Thursday night overturned tractor-trailers and cars on Interstate 40, collapsed parts of commercial buildings and damaged single-family homes in western Greensboro, North Carolina. One person was killed when the wind overturned a truck at a business, with three other persons receiving injuries. Local authorities received calls at around 11:30 p.m. from people who reported seeing a funnel cloud near Piedmont Triad International Airport and along the nearby western edge of Greensboro.

Northeastern North Carolina was hit around 8:30 to 8:45 am Friday morning by tornadoes that occurred across extreme northern Bertie County, southeastern Hertford County, northern Chowan County and Pasquotank County. An EF2 tornado with winds over 110 mph was confirmed four miles southeast of Harrellsville by the National Weather Service. The path was approximately one quarter mile wide with numerous trees down, roofs off two homes and several barns destroyed. There were no injuries reported. The severe weather was part of a storm system that had caused severe weather earlier Thursday across Mississippi and Alabama.
