Myanmar state radio says the cyclone death toll has soared above 22,000 and more than 41,000 others are missing.

Up to 1 million people may be homeless after Cyclone Nargis and some villages have been almost totally eradicated, according to the World Food Program.

Myanmar is located south of China and north of Thailand.

Cyclone Nargis tore through the country's heartland and largest city, Yangon, early Saturday.

Aid agencies reported their assessment teams had reached some areas of the largely isolated region. But they said getting in supplies and large numbers of aid workers would be difficult.

I agree with John. Jump on the wagon!! Most might not care if we aid them. However Im totally diffrent from you or them. I dont care for none of them. If you arent AMERICAN, then pshhhh. Im not sorry any at all that 41,000 are reported missing, for the simple fact my hard earned money will not be spent on them! Theres enough people here at home that could use my money, even though I hate buying there way too. To bad they had to go, now it's ganna cost people like myself thousands in taxes to feed and rebuild that crap hole anyway!

Here we go, the US of A will send billions in aid to this region, but they will ignore the suffering here at home. How about countries from that region jump on the aid bandwagon and send them their help? I do feel for these people, but I also feel for the elderly and disabled people here in the US who are being taxed, resessionized and making the choice between medicine or food, out of their homes. When will the foreign hand-outs end and our government start thinking of the homefront again?
