SEVERE WEATHER THREAT TODAY AND SUNDAY

A cold front will slowly approach Eastern Carolina through the day Friday. Ahead of the front, scattered strong to potentially severe storms will be possible through the afternoon with things starting to quiet down after the sun sets. A quiet, comfortable day Saturday will give way to more potentially big storms Sunday afternoon as another area of low pressure approaches from the west. Quieter conditions return as we head back to work on Monday.


FORECAST:

Friday: Breezy & warm with a 40% risk of thunderstorms, with a continued risk of potentially severe storms. Highs: 80-84. Southwest winds at 10 to 20 mph.

Friday Night: A 30% risk of early showers, then partly cloudy. Lows: 58-62. Northwesterly winds at 5 to 10 mph.

Saturday: Becoming partly cloudy, with lower humidity. Highs: 75-79. Northeast winds at 5 to 10 mph.

Mother's Day: Early sunshine will give way to widespread strong to severe storms by mid-afternoon. Highs: 73-77. Winds: SW 15-25

Southwest winds at 15 to 25 mph on Friday. Wave heights of 5 to 9 feet near shore and 2 to 3 feet along the Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds.
