Greenville Police say they're investigating a spree of armed robberies on the streets of Greenville early Wednesday morning. Detectives say, evidence suggests the crimes are connected.

Two people were robbed at gunpoint at the corner of Brownlea Dr. and Tenth St. in Greenville at 12:15 a.m. Less than 30 minutes later, two more people were held up at the corner of Eastern St. and Fourth St. At 2:15 a.m., police say another man was held up at the corner of Jarvis and Fourth St.

Police say the gunmen in the first two hold-ups wore red bandanas. Some gang experts say these are gang identifiers. Greenville Police would not comment on whether they believe these crimes are gang-related.

Police also say the all of the victims were told, "Empty your pockets."

The victim in the third robbery is an East Carolina University student, police say. Detectives say all of the victims are of college age. Police say there may have been more ECU students downtown Tuesday night because classes are out before finals begin on Thursday.

None of the victims were injured, police say. No arrests have been made.

We have a classic case of the emperor has no clothes going on here in Greenville. The politicians support the police chief, the police chief supports the politicians, everything is wonderful, what crime? Poor police, just not enough resources...yadda yadda yadda. Same old misdirection. Meantime poll 100 people in any part of town (well most any part, there are some parts you really don't want to go into) and the number one issue that everyone wants addressed is rampant crime.

Why am i not suprised, just recently all of our tires on the street were slashed, car broken into, bike stolen 2 grills stolen. cops can never find the real criminals just undersage drinkers.. its pathetic. i hate guns HATE THEM, yet i am compelled to keep one under my pillow at night so i can sleep with a little less fear for when some ingnorant crack head decides to bust in the house and rob me.

Comment Edited.

My daughter will be applying for college admissions soon. There is no way in hell that i would let her go to Greenville. I was a student there in the 1980's and it was not like this.

Why is the media afraid to say whether the robbers are black or white. One station even said one of the robbers nick name was JoJo, come on. I am sick and tired of the thugs giving Greenville a bad name. Greenville police need to get a grip on this situation before an incident like in Chapel Hill happens here (it is just a matter of time).

I live across from ECU and college students innocently walk from downtown very late at night. They go all the way down 5th or 10th Street...and it is a shame that they have to encounter being robbed, raped or killed. My daughter goes to a universty out of town, and I think of her when I see them out late. We have a terrific police force that is spread thin. There is a war on gangs, and they are lulled by lack of money, and drugs. We need a ZERO tolerance in Pitt COunty as well as the state of NC. Catch them and lock them up to keep our streets safe any time of the day or night.

Posted by: Anonymous on Apr 30, 2008 at 04:14 PM
They will be arrested. Spend our tax dollars to hold them a few days, or even weeks, set free, back on the streets doing the same thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Laws need to be changed now!!These Terrorist Gangs need the harshes punishments.

Posted by: hope Location: NC on Apr 30, 2008 at 02:55 PM
There existed a time in our society when a slap on the wrist sent a strong message. Way back in the day(around the time some of these laws were written)when one did not feel it necessary to lock there doors at night...Back when the crime rates were low, people respected authority,& believed there were consequences for actions. Those days are so over. We need tougher punishments now. The man picked up on the bus this week after a reported home invasion was carrying 4 guns! Bet he was surprised to enter that home and find the tenant pointing a shot gun at him. Luckily he was caught(way to go PD) before another opportunity to enter a home, maybe with his gun drawn the next time. Now that I think about it. A thief on foot, no get away car, pockets full of guns, evidently. Probably wouldn't have made off with the TV huh...Just a thought. We have the right to bear arms. We are going to have to learn to protect ourselves. We can't depend on the police to save us.Is there a neighborhood watch?

Here we go again....Police at Dunkin Doughnuts???

Posted by: Travis Location: Greenville on Apr 30, 2008 at 11:17 AM
I beleive that Gangs are the same as Terrorist snf should be treated in the same respect. If Gang colors or signs are involved then the police should have more liberal ways to deal with the crime and also have the ability to held such criminals as they do terrorist. Gangs are just homegrown terrosist who use threats to keep people from testifying sgainst them. It is time to take back our streets and homes.

Posted by: do what Location: nc on Apr 30, 2008 at 10:02 AM
where's the police force...greenville is terrible for crime - and getting worse by the minute, everyday there is a armed robbery, murder, something...something has to be done....get rid of these fools and don't let them back on the streets....eye for an eye dude...

Posted by: Lee Location: Greenville on Apr 30, 2008 at 06:41 AM
Let get teams of 2 armed with concealed weapons to walk the streets of Greenville at night. When these thugs approach us again, shoot to kill!

Posted by: Josh Location: wilmington on Apr 30, 2008 at 06:32 AM
What we are seeing is a group in our society who fear no authority and will not hesitate to steal from, or injure an innocent victim. Its time this violence stopped. The court system must hand down a harder sentence, and most of all, take the tvs and gyms, out of prison, my god people, prison is now a vacation spot for a criminal who knows he will never amount to anything in our society. Prisons need to be hard time not play time.

Posted by: Not Surprised Location: Eastern NC on Apr 30, 2008 at 06:31 AM
Gee,what better place to find unarmed and defenseless victims than colledge age kids next to a campus. It's almost like wearing a sign that says "Rob me, I can't hurt you" Reminds me of when they asked John Dillenger why he robbed banks and he said "Thats where the money is" Any crook with half a mind, and thats all it takes, knows that area around the colledge is a SAFE target rich environment.
