Marvin Daugherty has been a meteorologist at WITN-TV since 1982. Having grown up on a farm near Kinston, Marvin is well aware of peculiarities of Eastern Carolina weather! As a boy, he would spend hours watching clouds and the movement of showers. His first experience with a major weather event was Hurricane Hazel in 1954. Marvin says, "I don't remember much about the storm, but I do remember how my parents and other folks in the community reacted after the storm hit."
Marvin attended Chowan College after completing high school in Jones County. He obtained an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Chowan. Marvin then attended East Carolina University. As a pirate, he received a bachelors, as well as a master's degree, in sociology and psychology. He attended further graduate studies at the University of North Texas and eventually taught in college for a year in Iowa.
Marvin then decided to return to eastern North Carolina. It was soon after that he decided to audition for weekend weather at WITN. In October 1982, Marvin began his career at WITN. He continued his education at Mississippi State University, where he completed coursework in meteorology. Marvin applied and received the American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval, an honor that only some 1,300 or so people have achieved since its inception in 1959.
Marvin's witnessed and reported on just about every major weather event in Eastern Carolina for the past two decades. His experience and knowledge of weather have made him a household name in Eastern Carolina.
Marvin has been married to his wife, Alice, for 29 years. They have three grown children.
