Sports Director Billy Weaver moved over so a local celebrity could bring you the night's sports.

It was an exciting week on WITN as some very brave sports celebrities left the gridiron, the hardwood and the radio booth for a seat behind the anchor desk, right here on WITN-TV.

Here are the celebrities who anchored sports:

Taylor Gagnon, ECU basketball player
Taylor Gagnon's strength as a rebounder is just one of the many facets that make him a Pirate to contend with on the basketball court. The 21-year-old was the only fourth year senior on this year's team. Gagnon went to high school at J.H. Rose, playing both basketball and baseball. He was a three-time N.C. Scholar Athlete and a National Honor Society member. Gagnon was also on the Greenville Tar Heel team that played in the 1998 Little League World Series.

Ryan Nyquist, BMX Superstar
Ryan Nyquist lives in Greenville and travels all over America and around the world competing in the sport of BMX. Nyquist, age 29, was born in California and has been riding since he was just 3 years old. He's won dozens upon dozens of awards. Nyquist has been featured in television, magazines and even in a movie. He gives back to the community with his support of several charitable organizations, including the "Make-A-Wish" foundation.

Skip Holtz, ECU football coach
ECU head football coach Skip Holtz has led the Pirates to two straight bowl game appearances. Holtz, age 44, became the 19th head football coach at ECU in 2004. Holtz came to Greenville from the South Carolina Gamecocks, where he was the assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach. Before the Gamecocks, Holtz was head coach at the University of Connecticut, leading the Huskies to their best season in school history in 1998. He has also served on the coaching staffs at Colorado State and Florida State. With his innovative offenses and dedication to defense, Holtz brings a new excitement to Pirate football. Holtz is the son of coach Lou Holtz. He and his family live in Greenville, and he is active in several charities.

Sharon Baldwin-Tener, ECU women's basketball coach
Sharon Baldwin-Tener came to ECU in 2002. In her tenure, she "took the last place team in C-USA and turned them into Conference USA Champions." (ECU website) Baldwin-Tener's 2006-2007 team became the first ECU Women's Basketball team to play in the NCAA tourney in 25 years. She is well known for her player development. Besides ECU, Baldwin-Tener has held coaching positions at Mercer University as well as at the University of Georgia, her alma mater. Her tenacity and dedication have earned her five Coach of the Year awards and two National Coach of the Year awards. Baldwin-Tener played basketball in both high school and college. She lives in Greenville with her family.

Troy Dreyfus, Pirate Radio Personality
Troy Dreyfus is a radio personality on Pirate Radio 1250 and 930 AM. He hosts Live@Five weekdays as well as the Press Box on Pirate Radio. Dreyfus is an ECU graduate, where he was a student body officer and a founding member of the ECU Student Pirate Club. He's been in the communications, marketing and sales biz for 15 years. Dreyfus began his radio career at WZMB, ECU's campus radio station.
