There are a lot about emails circulating, appearing to be from banks or credit unions.

Some of the emails we've received in the past month appear to be from
the following banks or credit unions: Allegacy Federal Credit Union, Bank of America, Dupont Community Credit Union, Mountain 1st Bank & Trust Online, and Wachovia.

Some of these emails say you need to update your account for better security. Some say you need to click on a link, log in and get a digital id. Others say you have an official message waiting.

If you get an email from a bank or credit union that you are not a customer of, consider it at least spam, and possibly a scam. Experts say, emails can contain a malicious virus.

If you do get an email from the bank you work with, don't respond. Call them and tell them about the email, if you want to be sure.

Nearly all banks say, they do not ask for personal or account information via email
