Political observers say it may have meant more a couple months ago, but John Edwards' endorsement of Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination yesterday is still timely.

The former North Carolina senator's appearance at a Michigan Obama rally steered some of the attention away from Hillary Clinton's landslide win in Tuesday's primary in West Virginia.

Clinton's chances of capturing the nomination may be slim given Obama's lead in the delegate count.

Clinton ally James Carville calls Edwards' endorsement a psychological boost for Obama. Carville told ABC's "Good Morning America" the endorsement is unlikely to sway many Democratic voters, but does help with the psychology of the superdelegates."

Clinton's campaign chairman says West Virginia shows the race "is far from over."
