Republican governor's candidate Pat McCrory slammed his Democratic rival for supporting a policy that allows illegal immigrants to attend state community colleges.
However, Lt. Gov. Bev Perdue has the same opinion as McCrory on the issue. P
erdue has said that she opposes the policy, supported by Gov. Mike Easley, that allows illegal immigrants to enroll at state community colleges who are 18 years old and high school graduates.
McCrory said in a statement Friday the Easley-Perdue administration is wrong to support the plan. Asked about the discrepancy, McCrory strategist Jack Hawke said Perdue had failed to take action in her capacity as president pro tem of the Senate or a member of the community college board to reverse the policy.
