Governor Mike Easley says Lieutenant Governor Bev Perdue will be a great governor because she understands the importance of education to North Carolina's economy.

Easley endorsed Perdue during a news conference today at the state Democratic Party headquarters. Perdue defeated State Treasurer Richard Moore in the Democratic primary last night.

Easley says Perdue is used to getting things done in state government. He referenced Perdue's time as a state legislator, her efforts to increase salaries for teachers and her support of the state's Smart Start pre-kindergarten program.

Perdue says her campaign will be defined by "kitchen table issues."

Perdue will face Republican Pat McCrory in the November general election.

Blog Refuter: You call me selfish? I call the person that "expects" my hard earned money when I am broke all the time SELFISH. It's called the taxes are stretching the people to thin as it is, we do not need more things to make them even more broke. I say to the people that need help, get a job. Work for a living like everybody else. There are plenty of jobs people can do from home nowadays. It is not selfish to want to keep ALL of my hard earned pay rather than support selfish people who won't get off their lazy butts in the first place. As for school, no I should not have to support something that I will NEVER be using for me or the children I will be NOT be having. It's selfish of the world to expect me to support THEIR children. Asking me to do something is one thing, telling me I HAVE to do something is another.

"Yikes", how selfish could you be? That child you are supporting in the public education system could be the doctor who one day treats you. Or he/she could be a soldier who goes to war and fight for our freedom. Please don't think so shortsightedly. Now, I don't necessarily agree that everyone should receive tuition-free education, but those who are economically disadvantaged should receive some type of opportunity such as paid community service or work study to cover all of their educational expenses.

I'm glad Pat McCrory won the GOP nomination for governor, but I cannot believe that Eastern North Carolina voted for Fred Smith, a man who wasted his political capital pandering to evangelical fundalmentialists with his call to ban abortions and gay marriage. Mr. Smith, it's time for you to go and you can take the ignorant fundalmentalists who supported you along.

Yup just what we need free community college. And where will that money come from? Oh that's right, our pay checks!!! Why should I be responsible for someone else's schooling? It's bad enough our tax money supports the public schools. I'm sorry but we should just make people pay for the schooling. I should not have to support someone else's child when I don't have a child myself. It's wrong to make someone support something that they will never use!!!!
