The smoke from the fire hit my area of Greensboro about 11:30 a.m. today (6-13-08). Thoughts and prayers for all those involved in trying to put out the wildfire, as well as for all those displaced or waiting to see if they will be displaced by the wildfire. We used to do almost all of our fishing in the coastal area at "The Frying Pan." Those were great times (now long past unfortunately). And we used to "go out to eat" at the "Scuppernong Cafe" in downtown Columbia back in the 60's and early 70's.

It is smokey in Kinston and has gotten worse as the day has progressed. AT 7:30 when I came to work it was just hazy now at 9:27 it is smokey. Why is there not a smoke advisory for Lenoir County?

Posted by: Anonymous on Jun 13, 2008 at 08:51 AM
You can't put a certain date on when the fire will be out, they are doing all they can. It could be 3 weeks, it could be three months.

Posted by: Blog Refuter Location: NC on Jun 12, 2008 at 05:54 PM
Wow! The smoke is forecasted to go all of the way up into the Great Lakes. That's astonishing.

Louise, another news article on here said July 31 for the fire being out. I do not remember which on though. I have looked at so many. Hope this helps.

There must not be any politicians living near the fire, cause if there was it would have been put out by now.I feel sorry for the people down there.Looks like our governer ought to send for some more help. Just because million dollar houses are not at stake that doesnt mean we should just let it burn itself out. God Bless the Fire fighters.

Posted by: Louise Location: Washington on Jun 12, 2008 at 12:29 PM
How are the fire fighters doing as far as controlling the flames and when will it be completely out? Is there any site in future of the smoke deminishing to where it doesn't impact the breathing of the folks in the area?

Posted by: Laura Lynn Location: DeepRun on Jun 12, 2008 at 10:24 AM
Oh, Ok,we are under a smoke advisory.I was thinking we should be.Yes, smoke is bad in Kinston and surrounding.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jun 12, 2008 at 09:26 AM
Smoke in Kinston is horrible. Visibility is around 1/2 mile. It stinks. God help those fighting this fire and send rain.

It played for me. It came right up after the commercial.

Posted by: Jay Location: Greenville on Jun 12, 2008 at 08:54 AM
If "play time lapse" means that time will lapse while I'm waiting for something to happen, then it works great.

Posted by: not2work Location: greeville on Jun 12, 2008 at 08:14 AM
its not working mr editor click your refresh or erase your cookies b/c on this end its not working.

Editor: The clip is playing properly here. Are you able to see the commercial that runs before the timelapse? Are you able to see any of the clips in the video player?

Posted by: DaKand Location: Greenville on Jun 12, 2008 at 08:07 AM
I saw the video...after I had to watch a commercial. But I was talking about the thumbnail. It looks like an interesting photo but its so small. How hard would it be to have an 800x600 photo pop up in a new window?

Editor's Note: The thumbnail image came from the Associated Press. We'll try to locate a larger version of this dramatic image.

Posted by: Carlynn Location: Greenville on Jun 12, 2008 at 06:51 AM
I clicked on the 'Play Time Lapse' and nothing happened.

Editor's Note: I just tested it. It's working. It will play in the flash player to the right of the thumbnail.

Posted by: DaKand Location: greenville on Jun 12, 2008 at 06:39 AM
I wish we could get a bigger picture. these little thumbnail photos aint worth nothin.

Editor's Note: It's a video that will play on the flash player to the right of the thumbnail photo.
