Ailing Fugitive Heading Back To Maryland Save Email Print

An 81-year-old North Carolina man in poor health who escaped from a Maryland prison 43 years ago appears headed back to jail.

Defense attorney Andrew Jackson said Willie Parker was
unexpectedly arrested and taken to court on Friday morning.
Extradition documents signed by Gov. Mike Easley arrived about an
hour into the hearing.

The ailing Parker was first arrested in February after Maryland
authorities reviewing old case files discovered he had a North
Carolina driver's license. Parker was later released on bond while
North Carolina waited for a formal extradition request from
Maryland authorities.

State officials confirm Easley received and approved the
request. The sudden nature of the extradition upset Jackson, who
said Parker was taken into custody without his medication or a
change of clothes.

Sounds like the state is using that extradition paperwork as a napkin to wipe that 43 year-old egg off their face. If somebody can go "under the radar" for that long he should be left live out his life. He has been escaped from jail longer than have been alive, I'm 35. The government should be doing something about gas prices, rather than worrying about an old man who eluded their grasps for 43 YEARS. I guess it is easier to mess with him.

Does anyone know what the crime was?

Justice must be served. The fact that he's old and ill doesn't make him any less of a criminal.

If it has been 43 years and this man has been in no trouble since then they should let him go. What is the sense in this?

Posted by: steven on May 16, 2008 at 09:38 PM
it is too late to try to prosecute this man he already has 1 foot in the grave give him back his box of snuff and let him rock in his rocking chair until it time for him to leave this world

Unless it was murder let the poor man go.
