You may not want to go into the water in three different places in Dare & Onslow counties.

The Division of Environmental Health says recent tests show elevated bacteria counts and have posted swimming advisory signs for the three areas.

In Dare County a swimming advisory has been issued for an area at Southern Shores sound-side access and an area at Jockey's Ridge's sound-side. People are encouraged not to swim within 200 feet of the posted signs.

In Onslow County, a swimming advisory has been posted near the Highway 172 bridge on the New River.

Environmental health officials sample 239 sites throughout North Carolina's coastal region, most of them on a weekly basis from April to October.

I wonder if better stormwater management rules would have prevented this? The improved stormwater management rules that some coastal politicians and their real estate and developer patrons are trying to get defeated to improve developer exploitation opportunities. They try to spin their case by crying a loss of opportunity to develop low to moderate cost housing when this housing can be built in less environmentally sensitive (but less profitable?)locations.
