You may not want to go into the water in three different places in Dare & Onslow counties.
The Division of Environmental Health says recent tests show elevated bacteria counts and have posted swimming advisory signs for the three areas.
In Dare County a swimming advisory has been issued for an area at Southern Shores sound-side access and an area at Jockey's Ridge's sound-side. People are encouraged not to swim within 200 feet of the posted signs.
In Onslow County, a swimming advisory has been posted near the Highway 172 bridge on the New River.
Environmental health officials sample 239 sites throughout North Carolina's coastal region, most of them on a weekly basis from April to October.
