Laura Bush said the storms that spawned violent tornadoes over the weekend slammed into President Bush's ranch and threatened to disrupt wedding plans for Jenna Bush and Henry Hager.

She says that while family members and the wedding party were at the rehearsal dinner, all the catering ovens were turned over and the sides were ripped off the tent erected for the reception after the wedding ceremony.

But she says that by Saturday night, you couldn't even tell there had been any damage.

About 200 invited guests attended the private outdoor wedding ceremony.

Mrs. Bush said Monday the ranch was beautiful and the wildflowers were blooming.

Meanwhile Monday, more details emerged about the Friday night events in Salado, which were planned under a cloak of secrecy so impenetrable that not even the owners of the businesses where the rehearsal dinner and party were held knew who the guests actually were until they arrived.

Arrangements were made under names other than Bush and Hager.

More than 40 students from Belton High School’s march band agreed to play at a mystery event Friday.

They didn’t find out until they’d turned over their cell phones and were about to board a bus that the mystery event was the rehearsal dinner.

The bride-to-be asked Belton High School Principal Kathy Cook through a mutual friend if the band would surprise her fiancé by playing “Happy Birthday.”

Friday was Hager’s 30th birthday.

Maybe a higher power was sending a message to ol'W. I quote Bea Arthur on "Maude"-"God will get you for this". Think about it- Iraq, Katrina, domestic spying, turning the Constitution into the biggest piece of Charmin ever, etc, etc.

Thank God a tornado didn't hit during the wedding, or Gas would go up another .75 cents or maybe a 1.00.

HEY, Sissy of Washington.Think about it,if the President did have enough money to pay for it and I am sure he did.Where do you think his paycheck comes from? Us ,,,the tax payer. As For the Bashing of the Frist Lady,I was not doing that.I am just saying this was the wrong time to make a statement like that.I will always say what I feel that is one Right I still have.

Posted by: LN on May 14, 2008 at 01:13 PM
Sissy. I agree with you, I'm just saying she shouldn't have made a public statement about that as the wife of the President of the US. If there had been no other tragic weather events then it would have been ok.

Sissy.....I will agree with you 100%. This was her child's wedding.

I don't think the First Lady should be bashed for wanting good weather for her daughter's wedding. What mother doesn't want the best for her daughter? From what I've seen and read, it seems that the wedding was handled very tastefully. Afterall, the sky could have been the limit for the First Daughter. I think the President has enough money to pay for his daughter's wedding without using the taxpayer's money.

This is a case of damned if you do and damned if you don't. Give the lady a break, it was her daughter's wedding.

I think if I were the First Lady, I wouldn't make a comment about the weather almost disrupting my daughters wedding. At least not now with all the people in this country killed in storms in the past few weeks. Not to mention all over the world. Myanmar and China!!

You said it BIG J!!!!

Come on,,,,People in N.C losted everything they have worked for and all you were worryed about is a wedding.Carry it inside....Tax payer payed for it anyway.
