The battle over illegal immigrants attending North Carolina's community colleges took a dramatic turn Tuesday.
The North Carolina Community College System says based on an Attorney General's decision, it will no longer admit those classified as illegal or undocumented immigrants into curriculum degree programs.
The change takes effect immediately.
A news release say the AG opinion places no restriction on high school students taking any community college classes or on any adult who seeks non-college level courses which include GED, Adult High School, ESL, and continuing education classes.
Last week Governor Mike Easley said he supported allowing illegal immigrants to attend community colleges saying federal law wasn't clear.
