  • Costs pinch food stamp recipients

Lynda Wheeler shops with her daughter, Jaime, 2, shortly after midnight at One Stop Food & Liquors on Chicago's South Side on May, 1, 2008. The market doors open at midnight on the first of each month for the express purpose of letting her and a dozen or so others to start shopping the instant they have access to the new month's allotment of food stamps. This is what the soaring cost of food looks like at street level: Poor people whose food stamps don't buy as much as they once did rushing into a store in the dead of night on the first day of the month.

While many mothers received flowers and presents this Mother's Day, one woman actually received her bundle of joy for her Mother's Day.

Catherine Edwards and her husband, Brad welcomed their first born-- Peyton Edwards just before 5am mother's day morning.

Catherine said she went into labor Saturday afternoon and wondered if Peyton would wait until mother's day and he did.

Catherine says, this is just the kind of gift she would want for her mother's day.

With family surrounding her this afternoon, this day was as much as for her as it was for them.

"It's really, really nice! It's like their day too, cause they got a little grand baby for Mother's day." says Catherine.

"It's spectacular, it something we could only hope for and imagine it would happen and we're really excited about it and any day would have been great but today would just make it that much more better." said Brad.

Peyton weighed in at 8 pounds and 7 ounces.
