  • Costs pinch food stamp recipients

Lynda Wheeler shops with her daughter, Jaime, 2, shortly after midnight at One Stop Food & Liquors on Chicago's South Side on May, 1, 2008. The market doors open at midnight on the first of each month for the express purpose of letting her and a dozen or so others to start shopping the instant they have access to the new month's allotment of food stamps. This is what the soaring cost of food looks like at street level: Poor people whose food stamps don't buy as much as they once did rushing into a store in the dead of night on the first day of the month.

The Walmart in Morhead did not get hit. There was some minor damage to items in the parking lot, the swing sets, the cart corrals and some carts were messed up. Some minor damage to the overhang at Lowes. I don't think there were any injuries. I did not see the camper that was reportedly blown over. It may have been removed already. I went thru at 8:00am.

The cedarwood village area, where I live, in Brandywine is torn up. It was also not a tractor trailor that is down it is an RV. Also, the loading awning roof of Lowe's building is blown apart.

A tornado touched down in the golf course behind my home. It seemed to be a water spout. As it went by my home, water was sprayed so forcefully against my home that it along with leaves blew through the creases in my back door.
