The National Weather Service out of Morehead City and The Onslow County Emergency Management are planning for severe weather to hit this Mother's Day, which could produce tornadoes.

The Weather Service predicts slight to moderate severe weather on Sunday afternoon into the evening hours. They say the environment could be supportive for supercell storms capable of producing strong winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes.

In addition to the severe threat, coastal locations could have sustained winds around 30 MPH on Monday on the backside to the Low pressure system.

Wind gusts could reach 30 MPH inland and near 40 MPH along the Outer Banks.

High seas generated with the Low pressure system could produce rough surf and dangerous rip conditions on Monday along the Outer Banks.
