  • Obama blasts Bush's 'Nazi' comments

In this Friday, May 9, 2008 picture, Democratic presidential hopeful, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., speaks during a rally in the Memorial Quad on the University of Oregon campus in Eugene, Ore. Oregon is fertile ground for Obama, the self-described "change" candidate. The state that has led the way in everything from bike trails to assisted suicide is also the first to vote entirely by mail. Oregon's 2 million-plus voters began receiving ballots more than two weeks ago, and 22 percent have returned them, according to the secretary of state's office. The Democratic presidential candidate interpreted the president's remark to Israel's Knesset as a slam against him, but the White House denied the comment was in any way directed at the Illinois senator.

A teenager is in jail under $100,000 bond after being charged with assault at the PCM Skatepark in Washington.

Washington police charged 17 year-old Gregory Gardener Jr. of Brown Street and charged him with felony common law robbery and misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury

Police say Gardener assaulted 19 year-old Matthew Owens and removed his skateboard while he was at the skatepark on May fourth. Owens was treated and released from Beaufort County Hospital.

According to Lt. William Chrismon of the Washington Police Department, witnesses came forward and were vital in the identification of the individual charged. Chrismon says, "We have been asking parents and other responsible adults to assist us and the Parks and Recreation Department in providing a safe environment for our skaters. We appreciate that community atmosphere and we will continue to work hard to keep problems to a minimum."

why does vulgar language have yo be used? I quess that is the only way you know how to communicate. Maybe if you would didn't have a park or a place to go then the use of vulgar language wouldn't be needed because your buddies wouldn't be there to impress.

Obviously it does need more attention from authorities if you can't have the simple expectation of taking your child(ren) to a public park without having to hear vulgar or obscene language thrown about by unsupervised kids flaunting their momentary freedom.

Heh, teenagers at the skatepark get plenty of supervision, trust me. The cops are there all hours of the day 'doing their job'. Speaking of which, if they keep doing their job so well there's not going to be one kid left in Washington that isn't banned from the place. One of my friends got banned for saying the 'f' word to one of his buddies. What happened to freedom of speech? The assault would have happened regardless of whether it had been in a skatepark or on the streets. The skatepark just calls for more attention, obviously.

If the parents of the young people who use the park would spend some time with them there, like parents whose children participate in other sports, I believe the park environment should be much safer. Having a skateboard "coach" there would also help people learn to skate better and safer, and maybe be a role model for those that could use one.

I definitely agree with Catwoman. There needs to be some type of supervision out there.

the skatepark is a great tribute and I support it but without adult supervision it can not work.
