There are more charges against a man who police say kidnapped a Northampton County woman and tried to kill her boyfriend.

Garland Fisher is now charged with murder and rape, in addition to the original charges brought when he was arrested Tuesday.

Fisher is accused of kidnapping Neikia Ann Hunter from her Rich Square home early Monday morning. Hunter's boyfriend was stabbed and is in a Norfolk hospital.

Police say Fisher raped Hunter before killing her. The woman's body was found Tuesday morning in an abandoned house just outside of Rich Square.

The state says Fisher has an extensive criminal record. Since 1997, the 27-year-old man has been convicted of 26 different charges. Most of those were for breaking & entering and larceny.

Tuesday Update

Rich Square police say the body of Neikia Ann Hunter was found Tuesday morning in an abandoned house just outside the Northampton County town of Rich Square.

Lawmen from the Rich Square Police Department, Northampton County Sheriffs Office and the State Bureau Of Investigation arrested 27 year-old Garland Fisher.

Fisher is charged with first degree kidnapping, first degree burglary, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and attempted murder.

Lawmen say they are awaiting autopsy results on Hunter before going forward with a murder charge. They tell WITN that more suspects could be arrested.

Hunter was kidnapped early Monday morning from her home, while her boyfriend was stabbed.

Monday's story

Police across Eastern Carolina have been on the lookout for Neikia Ann Hunter, who they say was kidnapped at knife point Monday morning.

Rich Square police say Neikia Ann Hunter and her car were missing from her home in Northampton County while her cell phone's signal was picked up later in Greene County.

Police say Hunter's boyfriend, Ricky Harris, called them this morning at 2:45 and said someone broke into his home on Stanford Street and stabbed him.

Harris was wounded multiple times and is in serious condition at Norfolk General Hospital.

Police say Hunter's 1995 black Acura Integra is also missing from the home. It has North Carolina license VSL-1379.

They tell WITN News that Hunter's cell phone signal was traced to Snow Hill around 10:30 a.m.

the system needs to be changed so these people can be locked up.. i dont blame the police, the da's or judges who are all over worked.. i blame the people who make the laws and keep allowing these crimanals to be on the streets.. the victims families should be allowed to sue the states for allowing these people to be on the streets.. when you commit a crime you give up your rights.. and you should be punished!! if you can't abid by the laws then you waive your rights

burn this guy...may god bless both families during this time...so so so very sad

You can't put people in jail when victims don't want to testify or come to court. If someone is convicted of breaking and entering no matter how bad their records they can only be sentenced to a maximum of say 2 years. I give credit to the DA's and Judge's who want to send these individual to jail but can't because they have more rights than the victims

another unneccessary death he should have been in prison..

"The state says Fisher has an extensive criminal record. Since 1997, the 27-year-old man has been convicted of 26 different charges. Most of those were for breaking & entering and larceny." So why was he out on the streets? When are we going to WAKE UP and start punishing these people for crimes. This is senseless. As long as we keep letting people off without punishment, they will continue to commit crimes such as this. Our lawmakers need to step up. The Eve Carson and Neikia Hunter incidents should be a LESSON LEARNED for our judicial system. Criminals should be punished!

To the relative of Mr. Harris that posted a comment on May 6 @ 3:06. It is ashame that your heart has become so distasteful towards those who genuinely care. May GOD have mercy on your SOUL!! There are people who really care and are not just being "nosey"!! To the Hunter family I am very sorry for the lost of your love one and I will keep you in my prayers, and always remember that "god dosen't put more on us than we can bear"! GOD BLESS!!

Our prayers go out to the families, especially the Hunter family. God will give you stregnth to make it through. Sure it is hard now and I know tears are falling but as the word says "Weeping may endure for a night but joy will come in the morning." God will bring joy again to your lives. Lean on God, for He is the only one that can help you through this terrible time. I ask all the family, friends, & community to come together and do whatever we can to help lift this family up. Pray for God's grace and mercy to surround them as they face each day. Also, to the Harris family, I pray that God will keep His loving arms around you and grant Mr. Harris a speedy recovery. Please remeber, God makes no mistakes. He sits high and looks low. He knows all things.

This is very sad...this is the reason why the court system need to make punishment for committed crime more harsh. Theres too much crime being repeated by the same person and the system is only slapping them on the wist! This is the main reason we need to vote, vote, vote so we can put these people where they belong! I have a question, Did these victims know their attacker(s)?

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Northampton Co. on May 6, 2008 at 11:25 PM
My heart goes out to each family and prayers are with you. Crime is a big problem in the Rich Square area and I hope our law enforcement officers will capture anyone involved. Thank you WITN for being the first TV Station in the area for informing us of this tragedy and please keep the area informed.

How very sad for the families of the victims..no matter how this came about countless lives have changed. The relative is right God above takes care of us all we are never promised tommorrow's only moments so don't take life for granted and in these times we all need to keep our families close to us.I see Fisher is another fine product of the "system" lets hope that he can live with what he has done and pray for his family and those around him as well.
