I am so sorry for your loss of your daughter and grandson. I just cannot imagine the pain you are going through. It was really tough for me when I lost my brother, so my thoughts and prayers are with you. God is there for you. He promises me see us through it all. In Phillipines 4:13, it says I can do all things through Christ which strengtens me. This is a powerful scripture to me.Sometimes we ask why, but only God knows the answer. He just gives us what we need to get through it all. God Bless You

i think that the marines let this young lady down in there effort to find the truth.if they had told the local offical what was going on,he would have no tgotten that far,so it is not all good sometime to keep people in the dark on serious types of matters and this was on of them.i hope this does not happen to anyone else.

Prayers with your family for the pain of a loss of a wonderful daughter. God has control of this world, and things happen for a reason, just remember we will not know the reason till we meet him. Prayers and hugs.

My heart goes out to the family. I couldn't imagine what u may be going through at this time. I am angry that authorities haven't got her killer yet and that it may be a chance that he won't get charged for murder of her unborn child. I am against that because that was a living fetus inside of her and he should have to pay with being charged on two counts of murder. I will continue to keep you all in my prayers and I hope that you will find peace after this terrible event. God Bless!

Posted by: Phil Gray Location: Asheville, NC on Jan 31, 2008 at 12:46 AM
To The Lauterbach Family I know you are hurting and nothing I could say will ease your pain. I never knew Maria, but her beauty radiates from all pictures of her and her pride is avidly displayed as she stands at parade rest along side of you. No one knows more grief than that of a parent who has lost a child and in this instance, also a grandchild. I hope you know many grieve with you in your time of need. The same unseen masses cry out for justice not just for you and your family but for Maria and Gabriel as well. It is said that no one ever dies until they are forgotten; your daughter and grandson will live on in the hearts of many. In the future picture her golden hair blending into the colors of a rainbow and how her smile might make the stars brighter. I hope you can find some comfort in knowing she rests with the lord and Gabriel is in the arms of an Angel. On Saturday I will burn a candle in her honor as I kneel to read the 23rd Psalm. I offer my deepest sympathy

I am so sorry for what your family has went through. I can only imagine what it feels like to lose a child and a grandchild that you never got to hold or love. It is a tragedy that should have never happen. It is even worse that the man that did this horrible crime is still out there. Sometimes we don't know why things happen, but we have to look deep in our hearts and know we have to continue on for those that need us. Hopefully there will be a law passed in the future that people have to pay for the death of a unborn child. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Posted by: Erica Location: Jacksonville,NC on Jan 28, 2008 at 05:56 PM
I am so sorry to hear about your lost. It evenhurts more to know that the state of North Carolina does not have a law to prosecute for that unborn baby. That is so crazy! Be patient though, me and quiet a few people have tried our best to petition that law so that your family, as well as the baby, gets justice.

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I know there are no words I can say to heal your hurt. She is such a beautiful woman, and it hurts me to know that she was unfortunate to come in contact with such a monster. I attended the candle light vigil for her and I cry and pray for her, her baby, and all of her family and friends who are hurting right now. May God be with you in your time of need, turn to Him for guidence. I have been praying, and will continue to pray for Maria, baby, and family until Justice is served.

I AM A MOTHER AND WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY TO HER PARENTS THAT I KNOW SOME THINGS THAT ARE SAID IN THE MEDIA ARE MISREPRESENTED BUT DON'T LET ANYONE SAY THOSE THINGS ABOT YOUR DAUGHTER, YOU ARE HER VOICE NOW, IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT SHE DID IN LIFE, HER AND THE BABY DID'NT DESERVE TO DIE LIKE THAT. NO ONE IS PERFECT,I'M SURE WE HAVE ALL LIED ABOUT THINGS IN THE PAST, THAT DOES NOT JUSTIFY WHAT HE DID. WITH ALL THAT IS BEING SAID IT'S HARD TO KNOW WHAT THE TRUTH IS BUT PLEASE STAND UP FOR YOU DAUGHTER. I WILL NEVER FORGET THIS ,SO CLOSE TO HOME AND ONLY HOPE THEY DID NOT DIE IN VANE,THAT ONE DAY SOON OUR STATE LAWS WILL BE CHANGED FOR THE PRICE OF THEIR LIVES.

There's no words or actions that can fill your heart and mind with peace and comfort from others.I know because I lost my 21year old son last year, and to this very day I hurt.I know he is with God,but that doesn't take away the fact that I'll never see him again until its my time. What I can not imagine is the pain you feel for the way of losing your daughter and grandson.Again, no words can completely help you through this.As you can see the many comments left here,to let you know your in their prayers, I'm sure its greatly appreciated, and it does help to know that people really do care.My son was my life, and the day God took him home, part of me left too.I will never be the same, but let me say this,on days I feel I can't bare it,God gently lifts me up,and he will do the same for you. I pray God will fill your heart and mind with total and complete peace.Satan attacks our minds and we think and see awful images, but there is a God who can defeat that.Find your peace and comfort in him.

What you have to do is keep her memory alive by always continuing to mention her name. Talk about your fond memories of her and the fun times that you've had together. Rest assured that she is with the Lord and peace be with you. God Bless Maria and her unborn child. Sincerely, Rhonda

I was stationed at the Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune 1982-1984. I see not much has changed for women on that base. My prayers go out to Maria's family.

My prayers are certainly with your family...how tragic to lose not only her life but that of her child. When Cpl. Laurean is caught he should be held accountable for two murders...that innocent child endured the pain of murder just short of its birth.

my prayers and sympathy go out to all of your family during this tragic time--always know that God doesn't make bad things happen- but is there to help us when they do-
