Scams come from around the globe, and Greenville Police detective Frank DeSantis is tracking the suspects. Catching the culprit can be a nearly impossible task.

"These scams will lead me out of the country," DeSantis said. "Once they leave the country I'll take it as far as I can take it and then it has to stop because different countries have different laws."

DeSantis says, recently, more people in Greenville are calling him about scams. He encourages everyone to do that. DeSantis says the scams have common traits and should be deleted.

DeSantis says the "Hitman Scam" that started in Russia in 2006 is becoming popular again. "Victims receive an e-mail saying this person has targeted them. They are going to go out they are targeted to be killed unless they pay 'X' amount of dollars. Usually, it's $20,000 to $80,000." DeSantis says the email also says to not contact the police.
People who are unaware of this hoax might be afraid that someone really is trying to kill them.
