The normally quiet town of Falkland in Pitt County has a violent crime under investigation.

The Pitt County Sheriff's Office says the owner of Roadside Grocery on Main St. in Falkland was shot. Deputies responded around 9 p.m. Thursday and were on the scene until early Friday morning.

Ranjit Patel was taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

Detectives say no arrests had been made.
