A U.S. Marine Corps Harrier attack jet based in North Carolina has crashed while on a training mission in southern Arizona, but both pilots ejected safely.

The pilots were taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center and were both in good condition last night. Their names have not been released.

Marine Corps Air Station Yuma public affairs officer Bill Lisbon says the hospital reported both pilots were conscious and talking.

The two-seat training jet was assigned to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point and went down late yesterday afternoon southeast of Yuma.

Lisbon says he doesn't know what type of training the pilots were involved with before the crash.

Helicopters from the air station's search and rescue unit recovered the pilots.
