A 5-year-old girl was airlifted to a Charlotte hospital after she was struck by a school bus in eastern Mecklenburg County.
The Charlotte Observer quoted a spokeswoman for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools as saying the bus was coming from Chantilly Montessori School and had one student on board at a little before 5 p.m. Tuesday when it hit the girl as she rode a bicycle.
The extent of the child's injuries is unknown. She was transported by air to Carolinas Medical Center.
Spokeswoman Cynthia Robbins said the injured girl is a student in the school system. The student onboard the bus was not hurt and picked up by a parent.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating.
