Navy Holds Meeting About Proposed Landing Field Sites Save Email Print

The U.S. Navy will hold a meeting tomorrow on proposed landing field sites in North Carolina and Virginia.

The meeting begins at 4 p.m. at Camden County High School in Camden.

The Navy said last month that it will continue to pursue plans to build a practice landing field for its jet fighters by preparing environmental impact statements for five possible sites in the two states.

The Navy said the environmental assessments for the sites, three in Virginia and two in North Carolina, would take more than two years to complete.

A Navy statement said the North Carolina sites are Hale's Lake in Camden and Currituck counties and Sandbanks in Gates County.

Virginia sites were identified as Cabin Point, Dory and Mason.

A crying shame. Studies have already been made and the Navy decided on Washington county, NC. They didn't ask the people so a few influential people who thought their property value would be reduced, contacted their friends in Raliegh and throughout the State, politics, including a Judge or two, few who holds political offices and a few Attorneys, persuaded a few so called friends, printed many thousand signs, and fought off the Navy. Now, a few more million dollars will be spent, a few years time will pass, to do it all over again. It's amazing what politics, a strong minded attractive talkative lady or two and a few parties can do. An Oh Yea, you need a few adds on the TV and photos of wild birds also. Those migratory birds don't pay any attention to the jets using the bombing range next door almost to Washington County. Well, this won't be the first time tax money is wasted nor the last. Thanks

The meeting tomorrow is only one of several. The USN will host a meeting at each proposed site. Tomorrow is the Camden site meeting. Because the Camden site actually crosses the Currituck County line just a tad, there was one held in Currituck last week.
