I was at Havens Gardens watching the tornado while it was forming over Chocowinity. I got some pictures and some video on my phone, was a once in a lifetime opportunity!

My husband was in Washington at the time the live coverage aired, down on the watefront and could see the funnel cloud first hand. He got several photos and some video. He said that the tv coverage did not do it justice; it was a sight to see in person and he was amazed by it.

Wow...It would be great if your Video team would create a still image (wallpaper) with the tornado and that lightning bolt in the same frame!

They got lucky in capturing the "tornado" by having a webcam in the right place.....

Good job to the crews on the coverage of the tornadoes. WITN did a great job of covering the weather alerts in Beaufort and Pitt county, but did not report on the weather alerts that were threatning Martin or other counties until after the weather was clear of Beaufort Co. Programing was switched back to the hockey game and the only alerts were on the bottom of the screen. I enjoy watching WITN, but the only local news that carried all the weather alerts was WCTI 12. I wish more info had been given and all threatened areas and National Weather Service alerts had been brodcasted.

I was very impressed with your coverage of the severe weather on Sunday, that was wonderful work. I am an elementary school teacher in Jones County and was wondering if there wa a way of aquiring a copy of the tornado video for use in my class.

i watched the whole thing on t.v and it was awesome but scary. then a little later right in front of my aunts house another funnel cloud formed and we watched it go up and down and took a few pics. i dont think it ever touched down though but it was awesome.

I was at Core Creek (Cove City area)yesterday attending my great aunt's visitation and funeral when suddenly we heard loud thunder and saw rain. The thunder sounded harsh, so I began to look outside, at which point I saw bean-sized hail falling rapidly outside. It was quite an unusual sight as I have rarely seen hail in my lifetime. My uncle stood behind me and told us to watch for funnel clouds because this was suspicious weather activity and could signal a tornado approaching. We saw large dark, black clouds, but no funnel activity. This occurred between 1:30-2:00 pm on April 20, 2008.

I live in Chocowinity on Old Mill Rd and I was an actual [victim] so to speak. I was watching on my back porch when it was forming and then I heard Jamie saying that it was gonna drop any second and my mom, my brother, and I ran and got in the closet. My dad stayed behind and looked out the sliding glass door and didn't come in the closet until it started sucking stuff from one side of our deck to the other. It threw our trash can, wheel-barrow, and our deck chair about 200 yds across the road into a field. It demolished my brothers wooden swing set. It aslo pushed my grandpa's boat about 10 feet backwards. After the experience I have a whole differtent outlook on life.

I was a witness to the two tornados yesterday. It would seem I drove from the end of river road to town around 3 pm. As I passed the 32 turnoff, I spotted the first and experienced the hail and rain. I moved out of the area toward the car wash on 264 near the dollar store. Well, the rain subsided somewhat so I headed to get a diner. I headed and parked at Stewarts Parkway with my Golden Retriever Belle. As I finished my diner I put my trash in the disposal cans, rain suddenly started along with wind and thunder. My golden tried to crawl under the dashboard of my Suburban since she was afraid of what was going on. I started up the vehicle but it would not go into any gear. I think a wire may have been damaged. Long story short, Belle has Masthenia Gravis and has to have meds every 12 hours. I did get a ride home and she is OK. The Suburban is parked and broke about 100 feet away from the witn camera on Stewarts Parkway. I can tell you it was pretty exciting downtown.

We are down River Rd. at the Swan Point area and were looking due south @ Camp Hardee when a tornado formed and appeared to touch down in that area. That must be what caused damage to a home and U-haul trailer on Old Blounts Creek Rd. Wish I had videotaped that. Thanks to WITN 7 for the great coverage and helping keep everyone safe........

My family watched the weather coverage this afternoon and was amazed to watch the tornado forming on the webcam. This evening while watching television, I happened to glance outside and saw suspious clouds and got up to get a closer look. I called my husband who immediately said, "That looks like what we saw today on Witn." As we watched a funnel cloud turned into a tornado, and then right beside the tornado another formed. We took pictures (which I will upload), and I called 911. We lost sight of the tornadoes when rain and hail moved in. It was absolutely amazing and scary!

Wow... we are down River Rd. near the Country Club and we did not have any hail.

Posted by: Lynn Location: Washington on Apr 20, 2008 at 06:35 PM
That was awesome. WITN rocks. To actually catch a tornado forming was a once in a lifetime experience. We were glued to the TV. You need more webcams. They are too cool.

The Hail we had in our yard was about 2 to 3 inches in diameter. The yard was covered as if we had a winter storm. This was a very unique but frightning site.

Thank you for such great coverage that we can count on! Job well done!

Posted by: linda Location: greenvile on Apr 20, 2008 at 06:15 PM
Will it be posted on the website? I didn't catch the update due to being at work, so it would be awesome to be able to view the video online.

Editor's Note: Should be up now
