Thousands of people packed Minges Coliseum on the ECU campus in Greenville to hear the democratic presidential candidate speak Thursday evening.

The line started around 8:00 a.m. this morning. Obama took the stage just after 6:30 p.m.

Obama sounded his familiar themes in his speech, saying he chose to run for president now because change can't wait. Obama told WITN in an exclusive interview, "The American people, what they want are solutions to their problems and that's what I want to spend as much time focusing on as possible."

Obama is coming off a debate in Pennsylvania Wednesday night with rival Hillary Clinton.

Before coming to Greenville, the Illinois senator appeared at the State Fairgrounds in Raleigh at midday.

You're right Registered Democrat - it should be Bin Laudens war were are in 100% right now. To bad we were led into another war under false alligations. Weather it was Bush or his advisors I can't tell you. I'll just be glad when they are all out.

Posted by: Registered Democrat Location: Washington NC on Apr 24, 2008 at 03:43 PM
Well, why do we vote republican? If you elect Obama or Clinton; gas prices will soar further due to price control (1973) Wages go down and inflation goes up (all of history)prayer will totally leave school (left side of the party wants this) Take god references off everything (left side of party wants this) Gay marriages will be OK from Feds finally (Left side of the party) Taxes will be increased for everybody (history) We will add more buracracy to heath care costs. Get it, its about history of the democratic left side of the party. Unless you were born yesterday open your eyes. Why does the dem party always find people of questionable integrity? I heard Bush "Lied" and how you hate Bush. Thats the only argument. He didn't lie, he did what his advisors told him (history, look it up) His war. Bin Laudens war...he hates all of us including you and wants you dead. I thank the noble volunteer soldiers who fight to protect you and my worthless hyde every day and night.

That's a well-thought out comment, "BC".

With liberty, and justice for all?Voter '08, surely you cannot be of this country. Surely you have never read a history book and there is no way in the world, you have any dealings with the real world. Liberty and Justice for all. Voter 08, people like you have ruined our country. Women could not vote. Men could not vote if they did not own land and America had slaves. That is the problem with Americans now. We do not read. We have stopped thinking for ourselves. If it sounds good, say it , huh, Voter 08? Go back, read a history book. What was our country founded on Voter '08? England sent the thieves, murderers, and any law breaking person to the New World. Stop letting people think for you. Form your own opinions and start liking yourself. America is suffering from the liars, the cheats and the joy killers. When it rains on the unjust, it rains on the just as well. And as far as Sen Clinton making a mistake when she was in Bosnia. I hope she doesn't forget her promises now....

How about that Hillary Clinton. I want to hear it all when she's elected this year.

for Obama or any of the other candidates then don't. Plus you can't call it a "fact" when you make a comment on this blog about me since you don't know me. But i do love my husband very much that is a fact. And I will say this again, anyone who thinks the war shouldn't end should be able to take a soldiers place overseas. And for all the people who are worried about Obama putting his hand on the bible, witn has already taken care of that rumor. And if you think its Obama that can save or send you to hell then your lost all ready no matter who you vote for. Obama is going to change the our world. But there is a saying...The blind don't need to be led because no matter where they are they are still blind. That is some free advice for you kit. I still love you and your opinion. Wow i'm almost as popular as Blog Refuter. :) You better catch up man!

Oh Kit, i'm flattered, 3 comments to me. I blushed all day at work! I can always expect a comeback from you even if it is twisted toward your views. First of all I never said everyone who received public assistance should, i said i didn't know everyone's situation. Your argument isn't with me, I'm not approving these people. Second, i do care about things other than the war. Instead of the war and the billions being spent on it i would have gladly went into debt for better public schools, health care for the working, tax cuts. But Yes because my husband is in iraq the ending of the war is the main thing on my mind. If he dies it just doesn't impact me, yes i lose a husband, my kids lose a father, his sibling lose a brother, his parents lose a son, etc. Honestly what good has the war done for us? The gas price is high as it has ever been, there are 4000 dead soldiers. Are you any richer. My husband is on his 3rd tour and he told me he is tired. And if you don't want to vote for

We need to pick the canidate that we feel will make a change. We can't let race be a factor in our judgement. Listen to what each have to say....look what each has done to make a change. Many believe that we need to go ahead and bring our boys home...that it will stop the war. I can tell you now my son-inlaw has done 3 tours in Iraq. I once asked him why couldn't everyone just come home. He stated that it would be the beginning of a war in our own yard. They have to stay an help those that are in need. If they don't it will flow over to our own country. We need to pray for our country and its future.

to anonymous this is a FACT not opinion and if you are soooo tired of hearing it email him and ask him why since you seem to not have a problem with a person who claims to be an american and says a whole lot of good stuff but can not live by what our country was founded on which is the flag, usa, one nation under god, liberty and justice for all. there were some things left out but the most important is here. if a man can not say it then how can he live it let alone run our contry and be the president?

Posted by: Anonymous on Apr 23, 2008 at 01:22 PM
Voter 2008 - we have over this sooooo many times. He has my vote.

Posted by: VOTER 2008 Location: NC on Apr 23, 2008 at 01:02 PM
i am not telling anyone how to vote but one thing you need to notice is that obama will not place his hand and say the pledge of alligence nor will he bow his head in prayer. he was born in hawaii in the usa and will not do these things.how can we vote for a person that is going to run our country and not say the pledge and be proud to be an american?all you have to do is watch him or check out web sites to know this. i really think there should be someone else besides the 3 we have to run and then maybe we can hopefully get america back on track. i for one am proud to be an american and think that our president( whoever it may be) should feel the same way and it does start with our flag, the pledge, and the land of the free.

The one things I hope is that whoever becomes the next president he or she will think of our troops, the economy, morals, and most of all the fairness to ALL PEOPLE!

Posted by: Blog Refuter Location: Triangle, NC on Apr 23, 2008 at 10:56 AM
People are saying, "He is evil, but she is even more evil. They're just going to tear down our country." Folks, please stop arguing and bickering. There are no and have not been any "thou art holy" candidates; get out of denial. Instead of publicly labeling these candidates as evil, do your part as American citizens. If you're religious, pray that God will protect this country, no matter who's the President. Remember, God hears the prayers of the righteous and he may avert what seems to be an inevitable catastrophe. He can change the hearts of people. If you're a Christian and you don't believe this, then I repeat the words of Jesus, "Oh thou of little faith..." The whole point I'm trying to make is that if this country falls, it won't be the fault of its leader or those who voted the leader into office; it will be the fault of self-proclaiming Christians, who instead of praying, chose to bicker and argue with one another. May God bless us all.

One more thing, yes I have a loved one over there actually 2. I worry everyday. It does not change my views. Just because I don't have the same view you do does not mean that I do not care. I just think that an abrupt pull out would be completely bonkers. The war needs to end, but not at the expense of even more lives.

Posted by: Kit on Apr 23, 2008 at 08:42 AM
As for your Ron Paul comment, I know he isn't going to win this year. But it's not because he couldn't have had he been given the same coverage as all these other losers that I will NOT vote for. It will be a big pat on my back, when one of those losers ruin the country worse, for not voting for them. And I will say what I want about people because I only speak the truth. There are SOME people that deserve the help. But MOST of the people getting stuff like welfare are abusing the system. And yes one of them is the welfare system. I saw one family had 9 children and another on the way just to get more money from welfare. I think if a person has another child WHILE on welfare they should lose it all. But hey I guess it's wrong to think people should learn to take care of themselves no matter what the situation. I guess it's wrong to think that we should quit supporting a system of dependence for a system of independence and taking responsibility of ourselves.

Posted by: Kit on Apr 23, 2008 at 08:25 AM
Obama 08: The fact that the ONLY thing you care about is the war is quite honestly saying that you care nothing about your country at all. You support bringing our troops home. So does everyone. But not when it's going to be a LOT more of OUR people dying because of it. You obviously don't think about consequences. And quite honestly I try not to talk about the war because it to me is not the biggest problem right now. The economy is. The war is second on my list because I know what would happen if the troops were just pulled home. You want a war right in your backyard huh? Our economy is BAD so forgive me for thinking that voting for some idiot that could very well be a terrorist pretending to be good for now is a very idiotic thing to do.

Posted by: Obama 08 on Apr 23, 2008 at 02:26 AM
Whats the consequences? Do you have a loved one overseas? I bet not? I'm talking about our "OUR" people dying, and your talking about the irs. And you can get off the Ron Paul boat, it has sunk and your drowning I mean dreaming! You can post all the website you like on here, the only 2 that would interest me are ones that support bringing the troops home and supporting Obama. Anything else irritates my bowels. Plus I can't comment on the popping babies out to get welfare money. I teach, my husband is a marine, my mother started working in a field when she was 9 years old. So I can't comment on something I've never gotten besides I don't know everyone's situation, but I do know that I have 23 kids in my class and 17 of those get free lunch. Maybe "our" taxes bought a child's lunch. Be happy you have a job in this day and time, and be careful what you say about people. You never know when you might be sitting on the other side of that desk at the Department of Social Services.

I think we should vote for the person that we think would be the most capable leader and the most loyal to our country. Forget about parties, sex, and race.

Posted by: George Location: NC on Apr 22, 2008 at 11:56 AM
My main concern with any presidential candidate would be lack of experience in the political arena. Its a tough job.

Posted by: Caroll Location: NC on Apr 22, 2008 at 10:14 AM
The sooner we get the Republicans AND the Democrats out of office the better. How can we honestly get any change with these greedy politicians with groupthink ruining this country for their own selfish agendas. Do yourself and your country a favor vote outside the bipartisan system.

To Allen: The fact is people need to wake up and learn to NOT vote for the least evil of the choices. That's just a form of giving in to what the higher ups want. I refuse to vote when the choices are ALL bad. None of them are worthy of running the country. All 3 will run it into the ground until there is nothing left.

Posted by: Kit on Apr 22, 2008 at 08:18 AM
to the editor: That poll over there should have a none of the above or an other option. Because I will write in a vote rather than vote for any of those 3 idiots.

You know, I've never understood why this state tends to vote democrat for gov. and republican for pres. The fact of the matter is, a democrat WILL win the presidential ellection. Bush has upset too many people.

whats the use??? i'm gonna put on my rose colored glasses and go talk to a wall. i'll bet dollars to donuts you voted for jimmy carter and believe in the tooth fairy.

I don't really think the racial equation comes into play when a lot of people think of Obama. He seems to genuinely represent the goal of fixing our country...instead of continuing with the status quo...Also the fact that he routinely stumps to thousands of supporters shows how powerful the idea of a genuinely concerned presidential hopeful is...

Posted by: Kit on Apr 21, 2008 at 08:42 AM
Obama 08: You really think that the military can just be pulled out with no consequences (like bringing the war straight here)? Quite honestly I don't think the war should have ever been started. But it did, and the last thing I want some crazy politician doing is bringing that war straight here. None of the candidates have my vote. All of them are talking about adding stuff like 500 dollar tax cuts. We do not need more tax cuts. We need to eliminate the IRS and enforce the fair tax (http://www.fairtax.org). Anybody that does not support it, supports being robbed of their earnings to support useless people that don't want to work mostly. There are a few that are worthy of the help, but most are NOT. Like the person who pops out another child to get more money from welfare. Clinton is what started the crap, Bush just helped make it worse. We do not need Clinton, McCain, or Obama Hussein to win. We need change and THAT would have been Ron Paul. The news only covered the ones they want.

To:Posted by: TO OBAMAO8 Location: NC on Apr 19, 2008 at 02:35 PM, don't think i didn't comment on your two post, witn just didn't print them, they didn't even prints some and edit some. But for anyone who thinks our men and women in uniform need to stay one more day in iraq and afganistan is brain dead, if it couldn't be done in 5 years and 4000 soldiers later, its time to pull out. And I'm voting for Obama in hope for change, i've seen what 24 years of bushes and clinton have gotten us. I read this blog i see that a lot of you have this notion that Obama is out to give welfare....WRONG WRONG WRONG! I work, my husband is a marine. So what would be my excuse for voting for Obama? Oh it would because he is black? If black people just wanted a black president we would have voted for Jessie Jackson. There isn't an argument on this blog good enough to make me change my vote, bush is a moron, hillary is weak, Mccain is a tart.."slang french" Some of you just don't know any better!~

"REPUBLICANS HAVE RUINED THIS COUNTRY!" Just had to quote that for emphasis!!

Posted by: Blog Refuter Location: NC on Apr 20, 2008 at 08:30 PM
"Taxpayer", I'm not talking about local elections. As for state and national government elections, if any candidate walks around paying for votes, they're not worthy of running for office. If their supporters offer money, that's their business. However, I don't think you'll see a U.S. President or congressional candidate walking down the streets paying people for votes; that sounds so ludicrous. Remember to think logically before posting next time.

Posted by: TO RAYMOND on Apr 20, 2008 at 08:05 PM
Do you know what captital gains tax is? If you and your wife have mutual funds or such then instead of paying 15% as you do now, under Obama you will pay 28% with alot less revenue from it. It is documented that people with income less than yours make up 70 % of couples with mutual funds. Therefore he will be taking YOUR money!!! As far as his color I could give a FLIP! If Condi or Colin were running they'd have my vote, so get off the race thing!

Posted by: Blog Refuter Location: NC on Apr 20, 2008 at 06:55 PM
"Taxpayer", I don't think anyone with an intellectual capacity less than an after dinner mint would be capable of voting anyway since they wouldn't have knowledge of how to fill out a ballot. However, it would be against the principles of the U.S. Constitution to refuse any American taxpayer the right to vote. That is termed taxation without representation, which was the cause of the U.S. Revolutionary War. Were you sleeping during history class??? Or are you getting too old to remember??? I suggest that you logically think through your statements before posting; or else, I will refute them.

Posted by: taxpayer Location: nc on Apr 20, 2008 at 06:49 PM
refuter; the real world as presented by CNN and moveon.org??,,,or reality as seen through the eyes of a street cop.there is a difference. and the last i heard, the rate was ten bucks per vote on the street. vote ten times, the man gives you one hundred bucks. i bet they vote like crazy. and consider the other thousands of dirtbags that fall through the cracks because the p o can't figure out which way is up, yet collects a paycheck. are you sure the two killers will remain locked up, the jails are crowded you know, which may be cruel and inhuman. ever hear of o j simpson???

To Kit:Do you have family in Iraq? If not then how can you say we need to stay over there? Senseless! OBAMA WILL WIN! I'm loading up school bus loads of people to make sure it happens! Give him a chance like you repb.gave lil Bush 8 yrs. to do the job that he couldn't do. He will surround himself with the right people to make up for what he doesn't know! It's just like your job. You didn't just go in there knowing it all. Be realistic. He has a horrible mess to fix. We don't have time to point fingers. To the wealthy people out there. just pay your taxes like I do. I'm well over the $100,000 along with my wife. If he has a plan lets give it a try. Stop saying NO NO NO NO he's black so he doesn't know what he's doing. Simple: Give the man a chance!

Posted by: Blog Refuter Location: NC on Apr 20, 2008 at 12:35 PM
I highly doubt if the murderers of Eve Carson will be able to vote in the election since they're locked up. Besides, even if they weren't locked up, they wouldn't be interested in voting anyway. My reasoning does not come from lala land; it comes from the realm of the real world.

Posted by: taxpayer Location: nc on Apr 20, 2008 at 09:38 AM
after reading these comments i find it necessary to revise my post of april 19.reguarding minimal voter requirements. that is...in addition to the afore mentioned qualifications,,,all voters must have an intellectual capacity greater than an after dinner mint. hows that for progressive, refuter???

Posted by: 4OBAMA Location: plymouth on Apr 20, 2008 at 05:30 AM
It was a pleasure to hear obama speak! one thing that "stuck" with me was if we(America) vote for McCain we will entering into George Bush's 3rd term. REPUBLICANS HAVE RUINED THIS COUNTRY! Some of you diehard Geroge Bush fans, are you pleased with your decision? You voted for this idiot for 2 terms and the country is in the worst shape it has ever been in. If you don't vote for Obama, vote for Hillary PLEASE, not McCain!!!!!

Posted by: hey refuter Location: NC on Apr 19, 2008 at 10:02 PM
i refer to reality, i'm not in never never land. stop at some street corners where potential "voters" hang out and ask if they made the april 15 deadline or got an extension. when you're released from the hospital and if your car is recovered try reading the original wording of the constitution, not a lala land interpretation as you described. then, see if you can figure out the intent of the original wording and its intended impact. that is my suggestion to you. OR, we can just enroll in a PROGRAM, OR, we can pass somemore feel good, worthless legislation, throw more money at the deadbeats and skip merrily through the meadow. trala, trala, trala. doncha get it,refuter, deadbeats are deadbeats, losers are losers, and ya just can't polish a turd. get the freeloaders off the couch, they haven't earned the right to vote, or to have a say about anything. those two lowlives that killed the coed,,they can vote until convicted, and pelosi is working on recinding that law.progressive enough ??

Posted by: Blog Refuter Location: NC on Apr 19, 2008 at 08:02 PM
It's no surprise that McCain is leading in this Eastern North Carolina poll. This is a heavily-populated, blue-collar Republican-voting area, you know.

Posted by: Blog Refuter Location: NC on Apr 19, 2008 at 07:55 PM
It wouldn't make much of a difference if only tax payers were allowed to vote because nearly everyone, even the minimum wage earners, pay taxes. You can't limit it to only property owners voting because that would disenfranchise some people who pay taxes and deserve to have a voice. Besides, most of the people who vote are taxpayers and property owners anyway, so I don't think that your proposal will change things much. Any other suggestions? I have one. We need a progressive President.

to straighten this country out,,put the constitution back the way it originally was. only tax payers and property owners can vote. if you contribute nothing to the country, you have nothing to say about anything.a simple solution to the parasites, freeloaders and deadbeats.

Posted by: hey anonymous Location: NC on Apr 19, 2008 at 04:44 PM
if the gore had won there would be NO GAS PROBLEM,,,by now we would each have our own camel and prayer mat. it was the clinton administration that dropped this leaky bag in bush's lap. enron, beruit, the cole, first trade center bombing, and on and on...where was monica's main man durring all this?? dodging sniper fire??? wagging his stinky finger at a tv camera as he told a bald faced lie,,,wise up already, i'm about tired of supporting everybody and his brother with my taxes. you want something out of life,,,get off the couch and earn it.

I need to correct the earlier comment I made about Mccain's sons. Jimmy is in Iraq. Jack will be graduating from the Naval Academy and is expected to join the Marines possibly in Iraq in the fall. There is not alot of publicity about the sons serving because Mccain does not want to discuss it out of respect for the men/women serving beside Jimmy in Iraq. He doesn't want to put them at additional risk. As a former POW he refused to let his Navy Admiral father of the Pacific Theatre bring him home because he didn't want to leave his fellow comrades. He has the type of character I mentioned in my earlier post. This man is on both sides of this War. He is a father and a former POW. If I were a parent or spouse, I would want this man to be commander in chief for my loved one. God Bless Our Men and Women in Uniform.

Posted by: TO OBAMAO8 Location: NC on Apr 19, 2008 at 02:35 PM
Last I checked, McCain has 2 sons serving in the Middle East, Iraq and Afganistan. I don't mean to be unsympathetic but when your spouse signed up to be in the Military did he/she not understand what the job description included. I bet not. I understand your fear. But maybe I had this romantic notion of the soldiers being noble with honorable character that defends their country and its freedoms while realizing the possibility of the ultimate sacrifice. I imagine your spouse falls in that category and may feel different about ending this war. If they are in Iraq, they may understand better than any of us, what the consequences will be if we just up and leave. Can you imagine just up and leaving all of the jewish victims of the holocaust just because of the pressure of american civilians back home. History would be quite different if that had occurred. God Bless your soldier and I pray he/she will return safely home.

The kind of "change" Obama wants is not good for our great country. America was formed to be a capitalistic republic based on personal freedoms. Obama and Hillary Clinton both want America to become a socialistic state. Throughout history, wherever socialism has been attempted, it has failed. How can anyone be so stupid as to suppport these two socialists who want to bring our great country down?

Posted by: Anonymous on Apr 19, 2008 at 08:56 AM
Capt. Bill - What do you call all of the people who voted for G. W. Bush? Are they not idiots? We would be living in a different (better) world if Gore had been put it like he should have been.

REDNECK NAME CALLER! I hope it is not YOU that realizes years from now that YOU were sleeping all this time!!!!!!!! But as always time will tell!!! You could easily be called a supporter of a bomb-setting anti-american terrorist who is ashamed of their country. How lame would that be? watch what you call people. A man that speaks with Ayers 14 times and is friendly with one another sees no boundaries obviously which tells me he has a problem which is one of many. He obviously has an identity problem which is why he seeked to establish himself as a black man shunning his typical white grandma who made a deal with him about his education as long as she left him alone. This is why he chose the princess of the southside to be his wife and impermeate a community to find a black home which he never had before. Seems like to me, some of you on this blog need to run for president....your perfect, you never lie, you have all the answers, and you know all the "dirty" on most of the canidates. I don't pretend to know to be the smartest on this blog by giving false information and calling it facts. But this I do know, and NO ONE can argue with me about this....my husband is in iraq on his 3rd tour, 4000 men, women, sisters, brother, cousin, husbands, wives, friends, etc. have been killed in that senseless war. So i'm voting for anyone who says they are going to end it. My phone rings and my children and I are scared its "the call". Obama said he is bring my husband home. And if you don't agree with me, who cares, its easy to run your mouth when your in the US, if you love McCain and this war so good, then go take my husband's place and you get shot at, or shut up. Someone I love is over there and if your wife or husband, son or daughter was in iraq, you would be voting for change too!Obama 08

I was glad to hear Senator Obama speak; I feel he is the best person for the job; we cannot afford another 4,000 deaths of young men and women in Iraq; there are social, economical and domestic battles right here in America that could use the billion of dollars that has been spent on Bush's war; let begin a new change that will prayfully send us in the right direction and get back on track; OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!

I'm not saying that people willingly or knowingly go in debt. A lot of people go in debt because they know no better. I do realize that some have hardships which are out of their control, but then there are some people who just don't manage their money well. If someone can't manage a small amount of money, Lord help them when they obtain a greater amount. That's why I said a lot of people and not all people. Does that make what I'm saying clearer?

If you think gasoline and food prices are eating up your paycheck, what will Clinton and Obama do to your already shrinking pay check with their give away federal programs.

Posted by: Lynn Location: Washington on Apr 18, 2008 at 07:23 PM
I don't need universal healthcare...I buy my own insurance (like I'm supposed to). I don't need a tax hike, but I'm gonna get one if this guy wins. Less for me, my wife, and my son. I do need someone as President that understands that our nation's highest priority should be digging our own oil out of the ground and minimalizing OPEC and the other oil gangsters. They all say the same thing..."I will invest 15 billion dollars in renewable energy resources"...that does nothing for me. My car is not a hybrid, my house is not solar, my place of work doesn't generate wind power...this is just stupid. We need to get our strength back, and become more self sufficient. These "nannies" running for office will not help us do that. They promise the world...let me tell you people..."Hope" is not a business plan.

I'm a Obama supporter. If Clinton gets it, then I will vote for her. After watching and living in a downward fall for eight years (thanks to Bush and the Rep. party) I really can't beleive anybody would vote for McCain.

Posted by: Kit on Apr 18, 2008 at 02:10 PM
Blog refuter: But you are basically saying you support having your money taken away? That was my main point. That the fair tax at least puts it in your own hands rather than the government stealing it from you before you see it.

Posted by: Kit on Apr 18, 2008 at 02:08 PM
Blog Refuter: You call it splurging? Okay someone's refrigerator died so they had to replace that, then before they could get it paid off their heater died so they had to fix that, then before they could get that stuff paid off their roof is leaking, etc. Get the picture? It's not always people not budgeting. Most people live pay check to pay check to start with. It's hard to save if you do not make enough to save money. You obviously have money and think that anyone in debt put themselves there. Some did, most probably did not do it on purpose.

In his recent television campaign ad, Obama states he has never taken donations from the big oil companies for his campaign. This is a very misleading statement to the public that tries to make Obama look good. Actually, NO political candidates are allowed to accept donations from the big oil companies.

Mr. Bob, good to see that you have joined us again. I knew you would. "Kit", the main reason a lot of people aren't out of debt is because they don't know how or fail to budget their money. They get their paychecks and splurge. It's not the government's problem, it's the people's problem. Perhaps, financial management classes should be offered more readily in communities.

John (Conservative Republican) I saw you last night, but I was up in the nose bleeds behind Obama,sp I couldn't say hello. Hope you are doing well. I like Obama, but he did vote to fund the Iraq War until 2006. You can check the facts at www.ontheissues.com . I think a lot of people who say "do the research" need to do some research. Now with that said, I think Obama is a good candidate and he can bring change moreso than McCain. We need to get out of Iraq. 12 billion a month and what do we have to show for it? The World hates us, several thousand dead US soldiers, an economy in shambles, and once the Bush tax cuts expire we will be in a mess. If Obama will get us out of the war, despite voting to fund it, and brings jobs make to America, then he is all good in my book. Lack of opportunities in America is the reason why people cannot succeed. It is time to invest in America, not the world. I don't agree with sending tax payers dollars to help rebuild struggling nations.

In a time when many rogue countries out there are attempting to develop nuclear weapons, it is appalling that Obama wants to cut investments in missle defense systems, slow development of future combat systems and setting a goal to stop development of new nuclear weapons - seeking a global ban on development of fissile material - and netgotiating with Russia to take our ICMBs off of hair-trigger alert. I don't know about the rest of you, but I doubt Obama will have the influence "globally" to keep all this other countries "on board" with these ideas. Our military will be at the mercy of extremists who call for the destruction of America. God have mercy on us! Please stop with the "He makes me feel good about our future" reason for voting for him. Raymond: Yes the war is not helping the debt. But that is NOT all that has destroyed this economy. Besides do you really think we can just pack up our bags and come home and not be attacked here now? The war does need to end but it will be a long time. But that is not what has destroyed the economy the most. Unemployment rates are not accurate. The amount of unemployed people is much greater than anybody knows since you drop out of the unemployment system after 6 months. It is great because we have allowed our companies to move overseas. Income tax is one of the worst things on the economy, especially with the cost of living far outreaching what people make AFTER taxes. Seems to me that everyone for obama, or billary are all about end the war, end the war without thinking of the consequences. Oh Obama is for more tax cuts. As if 500 dollars even makes a dent in the amount of money the government STEALS from us. Universal healthcare w/o asking where the money comes from. Plain stupid!

Speech, will all have flaws when we speak(God did not make us to be perfect.)Obama would be the the right choice because he is such a team person. He would be able to collaborate with both parties to get things done. He has said that over and over. He would do the same with other countries as well. He has a plan to get us out of all of this mess G.Bush created. A lot would be solved by ending the war. It takes up so much money! That is why the economy is bad!It is just not a easy way to end war in the first place. Lastly we need change people.Stop being so closed minded!

I attended the speech in Greenville last night, it was better than I expected. This election has awakened a sleeping nation. Hundreds of thousands of people have registered to vote in this election process that have never voted before. The change is coming from the bottom up, largely because of the vision of this man. People, that is where change happens from the bottom. This is why I, like Senator Obama, opposed the USA starting the War in Iraq. If an opposition group in Iraq started the war and the USA came to their assistance, the results would have been very different. Our Government went into a country, who posed no immediate threat to our country and started a war. Many of our troops have been killed by insurgents, insurgents who would not be in Iraq and were not in Iraq until the USA showed up. And what sent our troops there? LIES, LIES, LIES. This nation is ready for change, and Obama is the person to lead the way. Not because he is black but because he has the ability.

This directly from his website: Provide Middle Class Americans Tax Relief Obama will cut income taxes by $1,000 for working families to offset the payroll tax they pay. * Provide a Tax Cut for Working Families: Obama will restore fairness to the tax code and provide 150 million workers the tax relief they need. Obama will create a new "Making Work Pay" tax credit of up to $500 per person, or $1,000 per working family. The "Making Work Pay" tax credit will completely eliminate income taxes for 10 million Americans. How exactly does this help anyone? Tax credits are NOT the answer. Eliminating the income tax is! People wake up. Or do you like that over a third of your pay check is taken away from you as if you never earned it? Do you know how quickly people could get out of debt if they got to keep their hard earned money? Quit voting for people that are not really helping!

It was a proud day to hear Senator Obama speak to the people of Eastern NC. The crowd of thousands (not just hundreds)were attentive and responded with cheers to messages of hope, leaving Iraq, better health care for our armed forces, and a new emphasis on education, with focus on art and music for all children and a 4K credit for college if you are willing to "give back" to your country. You should have heard the crowd! In closing, he addressed that he "mis-spoke, but did not lie" about a frustrated (and yes embittered) middle America. If anyone cares to look it up, the meaning of bitter is listed as cynical, resentful, difficult to accept. There has never been a time for more sour attitudes than at this moment in this great country. We need someone to restore hope in America. We need solutions to our situations that lead us to be embittered and frustrated. Obama is someone we can trust. Move over negative angry America, the changers are ready to roll. Yes! We Can! GO OBAMA!

It will be coming out of our pay checks just like the useless Social Security tax that I will never be able to use, medicare that I will never be able to use and so on. I see over a third of my check taken every month just because I am single and middle class. You really need to think of where the money will come from for all his new programs. The solution is the fair tax http://www.fairtax.org not new programs to FIX our economy. None of these three support that. I will NOT vote for Obama Hussein, Billary or completely worthless McCain. The only reason they are the front runners is because the news covered them the most. People are ignorant enough to not really do their research. I will vote but it will be for Ron Paul even if he doesn't get on the ticket because he supports things like getting rid of the IRS and the fair tax. I do not agree with all his issues, but that is the one that is destroying our economy the most and I will support anyone supporting it.

Thank you Blog Refuter, I am fully aware that two people can't just end a war. With only 1000 characters you have to shorten a statement. My point is that Democrat or Republican there is going to be some level of smoke blowing. With the Democratic side the war to end now is the hot topic to get elected. Just as a lone vote in congress a lone decision as President still needs the backing of Congress to end it. So what will need to be done, You have to persuade a majority vote something that could have been done in Congress. Vote for a person that you feel will represent your values or make desision that you would. But to change how Moral America works takes us changing. We need to hold ourselves accountable and responsible and stop looking for someone to put the blame on.

"Anonymous", I am glad you clarified your statement by saying the only people you can see that will benefit...That explains it. Your vision isn't infinite so you do not know exactly who will benefit. People seem to forget that there's the legislative branch of government. A President can only do so much without the backing of Congress. Some of you need to take an up-to-date history or civics class. I'm sure naturalized citizens know more about U.S. government than some of you.

Although I'm only in highschool, I see some major flaws with his logistics. Although I was at this rally and it was almost majestic to see him, the flaws of his speach were clear. The Iraq war plans are ambiguous, the healthcare plans don't have a 'catch' (free healthcare for the poor and lower co-pays for the existing members? Where's the compensation?)and his explanations leave lots of questions. However, his overall enthusiasm was overpowering and very inspiring. His promises and assurance on his claims makes us feel like we will have a better life after all. I think he is going to be the modern day Robin Hood. Take from the rich and give to the poor. If he does end the war he may be able to redirect the money flow, but it is likley that his overconfidence will be his tragic flaw.

"Seeking the truth", your comments make you seem bitter. I thought I would add, Obama will also give tax cuts to the middle class; you left that one out and it's essential to the truth that you're so-called seeking. "Jason", it takes a majority vote for legislation to be passed, in case you forgot that from your high school Civics class. John, thanks for informing us of that information, but we could've done without it. Dave, obviously people have a reason to vote for him besides the fact that he's black; people want change. They've been told, "No, things can't change", for too long. Some of you act like we just picked some hoodlum off of the street and said let's make him President. So basically, I just refuted your comments. Lastly folks, don't forget to vote early at a location near you. I trust that you all will be involved in every political process this year since you have so much to say!

Many of you are not looking at the issues at hand, Obama has stated that he wants change and I believe that he will do all he can to make those changes occur. He cares about Americans and we need to care about him. To the person who says he stumble when speaking, you would stumble too if you have been speaking all day for the last 15 months. I know that I am worn out from teaching since July 2007, so I have the right to stumble and so does he.

Andy, the only people I can see that will benefit from Obama's promises are those who aren't contributing to the nation's finances. Frankly, I can see where they find Obama to be the "Santa Claus" that keeps on giving. For the rest of us, we will be made poor by his plan. More poor on the welfare system is not idea of change for the better.

Posted by: Andy Location: Greenville on Apr 17, 2008 at 10:55 PM
Yes, I am bitter, and rightfully so. I'm paying more for everything and receiving less. If you're not, then you're lying to us and yourself. Can Obama bring about all the changes he proposes? Nope. But 20 plus years of a Bush, a Clinton, a Bush, and a Clinton or a McCain (and his continuation of the Bush policies) is something that I hope not to see. I'm done with the politics of fear and division. And it seems from many of the comments on this post most of your opinions toward Obama are based on baseless fears, rumors and innuendo. If your happy with how things are go, then go ahead and vote the status quo. I'm bitter toward that sort of attitude, and cannot wait for a change.

Posted by: Jim Location: Greenville on Apr 17, 2008 at 10:55 PM
Why all this WITN bashing about not carrying the entire speech? They never said they would carry the whole thing. Did the bashers notice what little coverage the other two TV stations gave? Get real!

Posted by: Marshall on Apr 17, 2008 at 10:17 PM
I'm told that I am "bitter", that "hope" and "change" is on the way, and that Obama can lead us. I'm beginning to have my doubts. Obama stumbled last night in Philadelphia trying to explain the effects of his tax plan. The moderators saw right through that "plan". He has a habit of telling two sides of his Iraq "plan". Remember what he told the Canadian consulate in Chicago? It's different than what he tells the public. So Obama has two "Iraq" plans. Now, what about leadership. Can anyone recall any leadership initiatives Obama has taken since being a member of the US Senate? Nothing is spoken about this and I'm still listening.

Posted by: seekingthetruth on Apr 17, 2008 at 10:16 PM
I found the ABC debate very informative. My suspicions about Obama were confirmed. Obama associates with weathermen terrorist. Obama’s pastor is anti American and is a racist. Obama’s wife despises America. Obama’s church is un-American and preaches hate. Obam is not patriotic. Obama wants to take away my guns. Obama wants to raise my taxes. Obama wants to reward illegal aliens with amnesty. Obama wants to take away what little wealth I have and redistribute to those who refuse to work for it. Obama refuse to wear the American flag lapel pin and says those who do aren’t true patriots. Obama wants to surrender and admit defeat in Iraq and cut and run. I thought I was happy but Obama say’s I’m a bitter person.

We need a candidate that is willing to change the wrongs that have been going on for so long. Obama is for change and I stand behind him.

Posted by: anonymous on Apr 17, 2008 at 10:01 PM
When I heard what Obama said about this, I wondered if he has really thought it through. Iran and other rogue nations would love to see us lay down our weapons. Think, people! Think! His words: "First, I’m the only major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning. And as president, I will end it. Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending. I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems. I will not weaponize space. I will slow our development of future combat systems...and I will institute an independent Defense Priorities Board to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary spending. Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons. To seek that goal I will not develop new nuclear weapons…I will seek a global ban on the development of fissile material…and I will negotiate with Russia to take our ICBMs off of hair-trigger alert…and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals."

This is the continuation from the first comment. Democrats have taken the majority lead in his second term, but six years there has been no real effort to end it until they want to be elected. There have been many of hard times for Americans with gas at an all time high, foreclosure raising daily, unemployment is high. Greed and lack of self-control is more to play than one man or a select few. We need to empower ourselves to make better decision on how we manage the resources that we earn, I myself included. Keeping up with the Jones’ has put us in the predicament that we are currently in. My point is that we all have opinions and beliefs that is what makes this country the greatest. Yeah sure we have flaws but if we cannot stand together as humans, and not as a political party then we will all fall together. Vote for your beliefs and do a kind thing for a stranger. McCain 08.

Dave there is an old saying, "It is better to be considered a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt." Barack graduated from Columbia University and Harvard Law. He practiced civil rights law and taught constitutional law. He served 8 years as an Illinois state Senator. He has served 4 years as a U.S. Senator. He is brilliant and he has a message and a plan.

I still remember exactly where I was on 9-11, surveying Main Street Village. From that day on I and all Americans felt the same pain and hurt for the families affected. We all felt that the decision to start war on terrorism was the best one. The problem is that you can't fight a war that has no face, no boundaries, or people. It is an Idea, a belief, this makes putting a time line to when it should end or how it should go almost impossible. Now I voted for Bush both terms and I stand by my decision but I also agree there are a lot of things that could have been do better. I too want our troops to come home and Iraq to be the self sufficient country that we started. Until then all the lives lost will be all in vain. The problem with Hillary and Obama is that they say “When I am elected President I will bring home our troops and end this war.” My question is you both have been in congress for both terms of Bush.

I went out to this speak becaus eI was interested in listening to what he had to say, even though I am a conservative republican. First, the fainting thing has happened at every speech, what a joke. Two without a tellepromter he stumbles more than George Bush. People look at his voting recordwhich isn't much he usually skips voting....why? He was voted most liberal senator. All in all I was kinda dissapointed with him after all the fuss surrounding him he wasn't much to see. Dave I agree with you, he isn't the answer. Mccain will be the next president. People are forgetting who elects presidents.... white males! Look it up it's the truth.

You must be kidding with the video coverage. Why can't we see the whole rally?!! You messed it up the first time and now we can't see it anyway. What a waste of my time!

Wake up people! Yes, he's a great public speaker but anyone watch the debate last night. He's not exactly whom I want for president. I'm glad so many people are active in this presidential race but please have a reason to vote for him other than he's black.

Dear Dave, You are so wrong on the Obama's vote for the Iraq war...he wasn't even a senator until 2006! Wow, you are so very wrong - check your facts before you spew you ignorance! Hillary 2008

obamas live coverage was cut short and not returned. shoddy work on the part of your technical staff ? no scannning of the audience was apparent, we saw the same background faces most of the time. please try harder next time.

Well I think the last nail was put in Hillary's coffin for any non-believers when they heard "the speech" The country I love is in the worst state it has been since i've been born. I would love to be able to buy food and gas in the same week. I would love to pay my lightbill and fill my precription the same week. I would love for not one more of our men or women to lose their life over a war for profit. Halliburton, and other companies are rich and families with falling soldiers are devastated. The devil has fool us with 24 years of clinton and bushes, i won't be fooled by them again. And If Obama is lying, at least i voted for change, I've seen McCain's record from another war. And there are some people who still feel like they have another option other than Obama?

He is a politician and he will say anything to get elected. I really hope he doesn’t, but in a way I hope he does, because then everyone will see he is no different than anyone else! He has sugar running out of
