A Duplin County town shut down Tuesday to pay respects to a fallen hero.

Wallace Police Captain and Staff Sergeant with the North Carolina National Guard Emanuel Pickett was killed a week and a half ago while serving in Iraq.

Wallace First Baptist Church officials say that over 11 hundred people were inside the building for Emanuel Pickett's funeral Tuesday.

Law enforcement and military from across the state came to pay their respects to Pickett and his family.

Main street in front of the church was blocked off with hundreds of cars and motorcycles that went on for what seemed like a half a mile.

A Vietnam Veteran with the Patriot Guard Riders drove his bike from Morehead City just to pay his respects.

Church officials say the family plans to spend the evening at the First Baptist Church having dinner with friends and other family.

This is insulting to this captain being called a solider instead of a soldier. It has been almost a week since this headline was posted and there isn't any reason for this to happen. BTW this is the second time this solider typo has appeared. Is it that hard to spell soldier? Ask any 5th grader!

God Bless this family and friends. It was so good to see a town pull together in this time and hope that it continues. Look around you and you will find there are many wonderful young people that are being very responsibe and take these responsibilites seriously. Thank you to this young man who gave his life for us and the others in his unit that sacrificed their lives also and the ones that were injured. Thank you to all our military men and women! Our prayers are with you.
