Camden County Water Plant Running Again Save Email Print

The call to conserve water in two Camden County townships is over; the water treatment plant has been repaired.

Officials say a power bump on Friday did so much damage to the South Camden Water & Sewer District Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Plant, officials were forced to shut it down. Officials say during that power fluctuation Friday morning, a valve closed while the production wells were still in operation. That caused a pipe failure.

During the plant shutdown, people who live in the Courthouse and Shiloh Townships of Camden County were asked to conserve water, including avoiding watering lawns or washing cars,

Officials had hoped to get the plant up and running again by Sunday, but the repairs were not complete until Monday afternoon. Around midnight Monday, Camden County Manager Randall Woodruff says the plant began operating again.

After Camden County ran out of clean water to pump to its customers, officials purchased treated water from Elizabeth City. Woodruff said Tuesday they didn't know yet how much the failure of the pipe and the purchase of the water cost Camden County.
