Three Killed After Police Chase, Crash In Granville County Save Email Print

Two sisters returning from a shopping trip and a man trying to elude police were killed when their cars collided head-on.

Their sister says 18-year-old Linsay Erin Lunsford and her 9-year-old sister Maggie were heading south on U.S. 15 after shopping in Oxford. Meanwhile, a Franklinton police officer was chasing Guy Christopher Ayscue of Henderson.

Franklinton Police Chief Ray Gilliam said Ayscue failed to stop when Officer Mike Dunlap observer him driving erratically and turned on his emergency lights and siren to get him to stop.

Gilliam said Ayscue attempted to pass a slower car near the top of a hill and crossed a double-yellow line. The state Highway Patrol says Ayscue's car slammed into Lunsford's 1999 Kia head-on at about 90 mph.
Gilliam says has been placed on administrative leave with pay.
That is standard procedure when civilians are seriously injured
during police activity.

Police should only be allowed to chase Felons. I've never understood the logic of Police traveling over 100 miles per hour to catch someone traveling 10 MPH over the speed limit. And it's usally where the speed limt is set to low and everyone is "speeding". It's sad that this story will be repeated many times untill the Police stop the practice.

This is another tragic story of police chases ending in the deaths of innocent people. My sincere condolences go to the family of these two girls. I know of 3 chases here in Virginia in my area this year that ended with innocent people being killed.

A very tragic story two lives snuffed out at a very young age.I personally am at loss for words. The trooper on leave will have to sleep every night knowing that he was a critical part of killing innocent people for the choices he made to continue the pursuit. What's more the court will probably not award any damages to the family of the girls.

i have known these two people and their family my whole life and they were nothing but fun and loving people. I am 100% sure that Linsay And Maggie would have done AMAZING things in their lives. You could tell that they would just by seeing them. Their smiles, laughs, intellegence and more will being greatly missed. I hope people see how innocent lives of a 18 and 9 yr old have been tragically taken and how you should love and charish those special smiles and laughs
