Kemp Named NCBWA Third-Team All-American Save Email Print

East Carolina senior catcher Corey Kemp was one of four Conference USA players named to the 2008 Pro-Line Athletic/NCBWA All-American team, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced on Wednesday.

Kemp, who was drafted last week by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 14th round, was named third-team All-American and joins freshman Seth Maness as the only All-America selections from the 2008 squad that posted a 42-21 record and made its ninth NCAA Regional appearance in the last 10 seasons.

Ranks nationally in RBI (26th), Home runs (37th), RBI per game (54th), home runs per game (57th), walks (58th), runs (96th) and total bases (99th) ... Hit a league-best 10 home runs with a C-USA best 38 RBI ... Collected 23 multi-hit and 20 multi-RBI games ... Had seven 3-hit and nine 3-RBI games ... Batted .636 (7-for-11) vs. UAB with two home runs, nine RBI and eight runs ... Recorded a team-best 11 game-winning RBI including a walk-off home run against Marshall (4/13) ... Tied for third on ECU's single-season charts in RBI and tied for eighth in home runs ... Out of high school selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 45th round (pick No. 1338 overall) in the June 2004 MLB First Year Player Draft.

Joining Kemp as All-American’s from C-USA were junior Shooter Hunt (Tulane), the C-USA Pitcher of the Year, and Southern Miss senior reliever Tyler Conn who were both named as first team All-Americans, while UAB senior 1B Ryan Keedy, the runner-up for C-USA Player of the Year, was named to the third team.

The 2008 NCBWA All-America Team is comprised of teams from 19 different conferences and 17 conference championships teams. The three All-America squads are also made up of 24 conference “Player of the Year” winners.

Pro-Line Athletic is in its fourth year as a sponsor of the NCBWA. It produces and distributes plaques for National Hitter and Pitchers of the Week during the regular season and extends its award production to include plaques for each member of the Pro-Line/NCBWA All-American team.
