Eatery Dishes It Up Just Like In The Good Old Days

Last Updated: 3:52 PM 01/25/08 - Decades ago, herring shacks dotted the shores of the Roanoke River. From January to April, people would come from all over to eat herring cooked in the shacks. At one time, the Roanoke River was thought to be the largest fresh water herring fishery in the United States. Currently, state regulations prohibit the taking of herring and most of the shacks are in ruins. But Country Rover Tom Skinner found one eatery where time has stood still.
