It was a very special weekend for a Greenville boy at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

Five year-old Terrence Hooks Jr. represented North Carolina as the state's Children's Miracle Network ambassador at the CMN Celebration. While a little unsure of all the attention, he made his way across the stage to receive a medal for his battle with a serious heart defect.

Dan McMullen from the Havelock Food Lion Also was honored for having the highest fund raising Food Lion in the United States.

Terrence and his family are now in Washington, DC where they're scheduled to meet with President Bush.

WITN broadcasts the CMN telethon every June with proceeds going to Children's Hospital University Health Systems in Greenville. This year's broadcast is May 31st and June 1st.

For years, I've participated in the telethon at WITN, and I thanked God that none of *MY* kids needed the Childrens' Hospital.

Then came the day that my daughter was admitted. The care she received was remarkable. They didn't use their "smallest, adult-sized" device on her. They used the right size! Everything was scaled for children The equipment, their attitudes, their explanations... it was all geared for kids. I am so glad the hospital is there.

Even after I was no longer needed on the front-line of the broadcasts, I still find ways I can fill in, pitch-in or just show up. This hospital and the telethon are there for OUR children.

Give a buck when you can, buy a paper balloon at Food Lion, challenge your buddies at work to match your ten buck contribution, call in a pledge on telethon day...

Your kids, grandkids, nieces or nephews may never need the Children's Hospital... but if they do, everything will be in place, ready to help your child, right then, right here, in eastern Carolina.

Amen!
