"Bare Ground Blues"

I took that line from an e-mail I got from Marvin this morning.  I think a lot of us are feeling that way this morning as we awake to not a mantle of white, but instead the same bare ground we went to bed with.

Sure, a lot of spots did see a dusting of snow and a lucky few managed to pick up about and inch, but the forecast for 2-4 inches that we originally made just did not pan out.

From the start, the forecast was tricky as we were counting on the cold air to meet up with the rain to change it over to snow.  Well, the cold air slowed down considerably.  The result - by the time the cold air arrived most of the moisture and rain was gone, just leaveing some light, non-accumulating snow.

So from here, we learn from our mistakes and will dive head first into the next forecast.

Thanks again to everyone who added to the blog last night.  I would like to do this some more when bad weather strikes. Thanks even to those of you not so happy with your local weatherman...at least I know you were watching.

9:45 pm Update

Snow, mostly light, is becoming more widespread this evening. The change to snow is now complete in Greenville, and is starting to change over in Washington.  A few bursts of heavier snow are likely for areas along HWY 17 over the next few hours.  Some spots may pick up a dusting to an inch. 

8:30 pm Update...

I think I may owe some snow lovers an apology in the morning.  While temperatures are getting cold enough for snow, the real arctic air we were expecting has slowed down quite a bit.  At the same time, the heaviest moisture is starting to pull out of the area.  I still think we see some off and on snow through much of the night, but significant accumulations are looking less likely.  Some spots may pick up an inch or so but most will likely just see a dusting.  However with wet roads and quickly falling temperatures by Sunday morning, black ice may be a big problem.

Keep the reports coming especially if the snow is starting to stick.

Greenville and Washington folks...its coming.

There could be some heavy snow for a while near Kenansville, Kinston, maybe even Greenville and Washington between now and 8 or 8:30.

I want all of the viewers here in eastern Carolina to help me out with the snow tonight.  All the technology in the world will never beat a pair of eyes.

I need you to tell me when the rain changes to snow, how much snow you have, temp...whatever you can give me.

Feel free to ask questions about the storm as well.  We'll keep this going through the night to track this storm.
